The task
With distributed filter systems, modern concepts for aluminium cutting machines must fulfil the task of disposing the aluminium chips out of the machine's working area to the filtering installation.
The chips produced during cutting tend to get stuck with each other and to form large chip balls. For this reason, cost-intensive chip breakers are increasingly used. They crush the chips to small, pumpable pieces. Using a lifting station, the chips are pumped to the central coolant reprocessing system together with the coolant.
The solution
The SFC series cutter pumps built by Brinkmann combine both operation into one process and enable the plant operator to do without using chip breakers in most cases.
The cutter pumps are suitable for cutting and pumping of aluminium and similar materials. In the first step, a primary front impeller breaks the chip balls. The secondary hardened cutting unit (>60 HRC) cuts the chips to pieces, and the large-gap radial impeller discharges them to the processing system together with the coolant.
Chip contents of up to 1.5% are possible.
The cutter pump is equipped with a maintenance-free elastomer shock absorber friction bearing which has outstanding dry running capabilities.
The safety margin of 100 mm to the tank bottom protects the cutting unit from metal pieces from broken tools. These foreign particles must be removed regularly.
In order to avoid chip accumulations in the tank, we recommend a side wall inclination of 60° in the pumping unit area. The chips should be fed directly to the pump so that the chip balls get below the pumping unit, see suggestion for tank geometry.
